Greetings! My name is Kathy. I am joining the bloggers out here in hopes of helping others towards better health.
I began this journey in the early 90's after my oldest daughter was diagnosis-ed with a seizure disorder. My other two children followed in her footsteps, having seizures as well. When my youngest was two she was diagnosis-ed with high blood pressure as well as a seizure disorder. Needless to say I've spent many hours at the doctor's office, hospitals and getting lab work done.
Our children's health can be a great motivator and sparked my passion for researching and studying health and nutrition. My own health began failing around 1995. I had about 38 symptoms which seemed to be unrelated and my doctors got tired of seeing me coming. I was suffering from systemic candida...which manifest itself all over the body. I had chest pains (by wearing a monitor they discovered I was having 73 premature ventricular contractions) hypoglycemia, chronic fatigue, constant sore throat, congestion, insomnia, shortness of breath, a myriad of pains in my joints, ears, neck, food sensitivities, sensitive to light, sounds, etc. On one occasion we had to call 911 one night because I had some sort of allergic reaction...my body was freaking out. I felt ill all of the time. I felt like I had been poisoned or had some sort of fatal disease. I also had several miscarriages during this time. My body and my mind wanted to shut down. In fact I wanted the doctors to knock me out until they could discover what was wrong with me.
One day I visited my local health food store a clerk ask about my symptoms and suggested a low blood sugar diet and that I consider candida. Off to the library I went to begin researching this condition and discovered that is exactly what was going on. One of the books I was reading was full of case studies and that is where I read about a local doctor who treated this condition. When I went to visit Dr. Betty Rainey OB/GYN I was prepared with three pages of symptoms. Because of her familiarity with this condition it didn't take long for her to make the diagnosis. She prescribed anti-fungal's and I implemented a candida diet that I had come across during my research.
This led me to the best health I had ever experienced up to this point in my life. I felt 150%. Then after feeling good for about a year and a half, I began to compromise my diet . After some time of poor eating habits I was sent to a gastrointestinal doctor.
His diagnosis was IBS and he offered to medicate me. When I asked if he thought it could be diet related or if there was anything I could do differently about my eating habits, he got a little huffy and told me again that he could give me a colonoscopy and give me medicine for the symptoms. No thanks was my response.
This is what led me to more research and adopting the high raw nutrient dense diet I now enjoy.
A few years down the road I tested positive for Celiac disease, so now I am also gluten free.
It has been a process of discovery and I am still learning to make positive changes and better choices. Over the years I have transitioned from the Standard American Diet.... to an organic whole foods diet...then a vegetarian diet and now a high raw nutrient dense diet... I have been vegan for most of the time since beginning a high raw diet.
I am currently working on a Naturopathic degree and continue to study all areas of health and nutrition. I teach Yoga and Group Fitness classes and also enjoy teaching Nutrition classes and demonstrating how to prepare healthy foods.
I believe God made our bodies to self-heal, if we will just remove the obstructions that are hindering it from doing it's marvelous work and then to give it what it needs to rebuild.
I would love to help you on your journey to good health.
